(Interamerican Institute for Democracy) In the second round of presidential elections in Ecuador the axis of confrontation is between democracy and dictatorship, because this is about the efforts of the dictatorial group -orchestrated from Cuba- to regain the government with candidate Andres Arauz who is their “trojan horse”. When Castrochavism regains any government -as Argentina and Bolivia prove it today- political leaders are annulled or are turned into functional actors for the regime, they are the first victims of the dictatorial reinstatement. This election will determine; if Ecuador continues as a democracy, and the future of democratic leaders.
The scheming with which they took Cristina Kirchner to the government in Argentina is once again repeated under the image of Alberto Fernandez and in Bolivia this scheming used the image of Luis Arce to return Evo Morales to the government. With the presidency of Andres Arauz, now they seek to return Rafael Correa with impunity to Ecuador. The candidacy of Correa’s alter-ego in Ecuador is not an Ecuadorean or national undertaking, it is the repetition of an already manipulated strategy to regain the government in Argentina and Ecuador, grant impunity to their felons, and counterfeiting new images go back to the past.
Let us remember that the story of the Trojan horse narrated in Homer’s The Odyssey and in Virgilio’s The Eneida -amongst other authors- describe the contrivance, ploy, or deception in the shape of an enormous wooden horse that the Achaeans offered to the Trojans pretending to acknowledge their victory and after the wooden horse was taken into the Trojan’s fortified city, in the middle of the night enemies came out of it and opened the city’s gates allowing their enemy’s entrance and Trojan’s definite defeat.
In Ecuador, the Castrochavism’s “Trojan horse” in the presidential elections is Andres Arauz just as he himself had confessed in the first part of his campaign that he conducted with Rafael Correa’s photograph while he revindicated actions, positions, and methods of the one who stands today condemned to eight years of jail for corruption, with several trials and accusations pending for a countless number of crimes. There is no doubt that with Arauz at the helm the one who really has returned to the government of Ecuador is Correa and it is Castrochavism who really will regain control of the country. The hidden contents of the Ecuadorean “Trojan horse” are dictatorship, impunity, political persecutions, judicial manipulation, and the annihilation of democracy.
The dramatic thing is that this is a strategy of deception, repeated and successful for organized crime. The Trojan horse has already been used in such a short time as in this past two years, by Castrochavism in Argentina with Alberto Fernandez/Cristina Kirchner and in Bolivia with Luis Arce/Evo Morales.
In Argentina with Alberto Fernandez so that Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner could be elected Vice President because otherwise Kirchner would have lost the elections if she had ran for President, so that she could have total power and complete impunity, but beyond that so that she could reinstate the whole system for the institutional destruction to make her country a satellite of Castrochavist dictatorships, positioning Argentina on the dangerous path of Cuba and Venezuela, as the facts reveal in a period of almost a year of government. To install a government that in order to advance in its anti-democratic efforts, is ready to persecute and try democratic leaders that already appear to be constrained, threatened, divided and ready to be defeated.
In Bolivia, Evo Morales resigned in November of 2019 confessing the counterfeiting and electoral fraud that he had committed in the elections of October of that year. A government headed by Jeanine Añez was installed that should have been a transitional government but turned out to be a government of dictatorial continuity that did not restore neither the “republic, nor democracy” thereby taking the nation to elections under a dictatorship. The Añez’s period stands out because “the dictator was removed but not the dictatorship” and because she took Bolivia to elections in October of 2020 in which the gargantuan electoral fraud, the Trojan horse was Luis Arce who enabled Evo Morales to return with impunity and now be the “dictator in-chief”.
In Bolivia, the dictatorship permeates the entirety of government, manipulating the Judicial Branch, falsifying a narrative to turn the electoral fraud of 2019 into a coup d’état and revealing that none of the essential components of democracy exist. In less than six months in power, they have ensured Morales’ and his criminal group’s impunity, they violate human rights, have jailed former President Jeanine Añez and there are dozens of political prisoners who are former ministers, members of the military and police high echelons, and young leaders, all while the regime recruits as functional leaders those who have popular support.
This and worse than this are what will happen in Ecuador if Arauz, the Castrochavism’s Trojan horse, is elected to the presidency. For their own future’s sake, Lasso’s presidency is of interest to all Ecuadorean democratic leaders. With Lasso as President, democracy will have been secured and by default next elections will be free and fair, there will be the rule of law, free opposition and alternance in the government. Only under democracy the President of Ecuador could be Yaku Pérez, Xavier Hervas or any democratic leader.
